How can a building repurpose itself? At the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia curated by Carlo Ratti we will showcase a cinematic documentation unfolding more than two years of ongoing transformation processes taking place at Thoravej 29. The documentation is made in collaboration with photographer Hampus Berndtson and is made possible through the generous support of The Danish Arts Foundation's Committee for Architecture.
"Thoravej 29 – Repurposing Itself" documents the transformation process over the course of three years. Through cinematic observation, the film captures the building’s evolution, shaped by friction, and explores how the act of preservation, repurposing when necessary, and highlighting the potential of what is often overlooked are conveyed through the reconfiguration of materials.
The first edition of the documentation was released in May 2023 on PLATFORM. Later, the film was presented at the 7th Tallinn Architecture Biennale (TAB 2024), which explored architecture from the perspective of resources in a world-wide perspective with a local base and call for action. The 7th Tallinn Architecture Biennale was curated by Anhelina L. Starkova, Kharkiv; Daniel A. Walser, Zürich; and Jaan Kuusemets, Tallinn.
