35 pieces of furniture created for specific sites were taken out of their genuine contexts and exhibited in an immense factory hall. This paradox, placing something carefully assigned to a certain place into an alienated space, set up the spatial concept of the exhibition.
In 2023, Copenhagen was selected as the UNESCO World Capital of Architecture. To celebrate the city's architecture, 35 designers were asked to create a piece of furniture for a specific place in the capital. Each of these pieces was exhibited in Tunnelfabrikken, a production hall originally constructed to produce the concrete elements for the tunnel between Denmark and Sweden.
Acknowledging the inherent conflict of removing the locality of the hyper-local, a non-hierarchical grid of cords, outlets, tripods, and construction site lamps was laid out. This introduced only the necessary practicalities, highlighting every piece of furniture equally.
The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition (SE) is an association of designers, architects, and manufacturers. The association’s purpose is to serve as a laboratory for the innovation of future furniture types and concepts and to organize an annual exhibition of new, experimental furniture with a high level of craftsmanship, functionality, and artistic quality.
